Ilam plunges in sorrow with Nembang’s demise

ILAM: Ilam has plunged into sorrow after the untimely passing away of federal parliamentarian of Ilam constituency-2, Subash Chandra Nembang.

He had regularly been a parliament member by continuously winning the parliamentary elections from Ilam since 2056 BS.

Lately he was the deputy parliamentary leader of the CPN-UML. Nembang, who was the facilitator of consensus, collaboration and unity in national politics had established his image as an honest leader.

He was the ‘political center’ for the district people. Nembang who was born in Suntalabar nearby Ilam Bazaar has joined communist politics in 2029 BS when he was a student in Ilam Campus.

While advocating for political change in the country, he was prisoned in 2033 BS on a treason case.

Nembang had served the country as a member of the National Assembly in 2048 and 2052 BS.

He was the Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs under the Manmohan Adhikari-led communist government. He had also served as the President of Public Accounts Committee in 2056 BS.

Later, he served as the Speaker of reinstated parliament with the success of the People’s Movement of 2062-63.

After winning election from Ilam in 2064 and 2070 BS, he had become the Chairperson of the epochal Constituent Assembly.

He had played coordinating role in promulgating the Nepal Constitution from the Constituent Assembly.

He had served the country as a Speaker for four times and was always picked to the post on consensus.

The district-based political leaders, social activists and students are pouring on their sorrow expression through different media after knowing the demise of their leader.

Most of them said Nembang’s demise was an irreparable loss to the country.

Parliamentarian from Ilam constituency-1, Mahesh Basnet said the political centre of Ilam was collapsed with his demise.

His contributions to the country and the people were unparalleled, Basnet said, the entire country has plunged into sorrow with his passing away.

Nepali Congress Ilam district President Dambar Khadka said Nembang will be ever-remembered for his contributions to the country.

It may be noted that Nembang had defeated Khadka in the last parliamentary elections by margin of votes.

“Nembang had substantial contributions to the development of Ilam”, Khadka said, adding, “He left the world being popular among all sections from children to senior citizens”.
