Beni-Jomsom-Korala section road to be fully closed for five days



BENI: The Beni-Jomsom-Korala section of the Kaligandaki Corridor Highway is to be fully closed for vehicular traffic for five days. This decision has been taken to stop the landslide at Baisari, Raghuganga Rural Municipality-2 in Myagdi district.

The Beni-Jomsom-Korala section of the Highway connects the trans-Himalayan district Mustang with the national highway via the northern part of Myagdi.

Work on blacktopping the Rahughat-Tatopani section under the Beni-Jomsom-Korala road is underway at present. It is said landslide has started to occur at Baisari where works like cutting the rock for road widening and paving the road with RCC have been completed.

The road section had to be closed to prevent further landslides at the place. It will be shut for vehicular traffic for five days from August 13 to 17, the District Administration Office, Myagdi stated.

Assistant Chief District Officer Dhirendra Raj Panta said the Ghumaune Tal-Begkhola section of the highway would be completely closed for the period as works on landslide prevention have to be carried out employing heavy equipment.

The District Administration Office has requested the light vehicles operating on the Chamere-Begkhola road section of the Highway use the alternative dirt road of the Chamere-Rakhu-Piple Begkhola section during the period the Beni-Jomsom-Korala section is closed.
