Kakani Rural Municipality to impose fee of Rs 1,500 from trucks carrying garbage to Bancharedanda

KATHMANDU: Kakani Rural Municipality has said that it will impose an entry fee of Rs 1,500 on trucks transporting garbage to Bancharedanda, the landfill site in the district, starting from July 17th.

The Municipality has recently passed a financial bill to enforce this fee on vehicles carrying garbage from Kathmandu.

Suman Tamang, the Village Chairman, confirmed that the fee collection will commence on July 17th.

He justified the decision by stating that Kathmandu has been utilizing Kakani solely as a dumping site without any efforts to develop the area.

Tamang further mentioned that the revenue generated from the entry fee will be utilized for the development of Bancharedanda.

Additionally, he highlighted that the presence of the landfill has led to an increase in the number of patients in the area.
