Jajarkot earthquake: Livestock loss worth Rs 19 million

JAJARKOT: The loss of livestock in the Jajarkot earthquake amounted to Rs 19 million.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock shared that the details regarding the loss of livestock in Jajarkot and Rukum Paschim districts were evaluated with the average value of the cattle that perished in the quake.

The loss of cows, oxen, buffaloes, sheep, and domestic fowl was recorded for the calculation.

Ministry spokesperson Shabnam Shivakoti stated that Jajarkot district witnessed a significant loss of cattle and fowl. He added that Jajarkot alone lost cattle worth Rs 10.7 million.

The Ministry also treated 606 injured animals, with Jajarkot alone having 592 injured animals.

Similarly, the Ministry began collecting details on the damage to rice, wheat, maize, and millet in the quake-hit districts.

The compensation for foodstuffs and domestic animals will be managed via insurance.

The concerned province and local levels will prepare standards for compensation, which will be provided through a single-door system.
