JAJARKOT: In the aftermath of the recent earthquake, the health of affected citizens has taken a severe toll as they endure frigid nights in makeshift shelters in Jajarkot.

Two lives were lost on Thursday and Friday due to the extreme cold, with 48-year-old Pampha Rawal of Nalgad Municipality-4 Lahan and 84-year-old Gopal Bahadur Rawal succumbing to pneumonia and asthma, respectively.

Ward President Badri Panta stated that Pampha lost her battle with pneumonia, underscoring the dire consequences of exposure to the harsh elements.

The winter conditions have particularly affected vulnerable demographics, including the elderly, children, and those with chronic illnesses forced to endure the bitter cold with insufficient clothing and blankets.

In ward- 4, encompassing 375 households, managing the health of 30 senior citizens and 30 pregnant women grappling with asthma, rheumatism, and heart diseases has become a pressing issue.

Panta expressed concern over the escalating health crisis, with a surge in illnesses among children and a growing number of patients seeking treatment as conditions worsen due to the cold.

Hospital sources, meanwhile, reported a significant uptick in patients suffering from various ailments such as fever, cold, diarrhea, heart disease, and asthma directly attributed to the harsh weather conditions.

The hospital is grappling with a daily influx of up to 150 patients, including seniors, citizens, girls, and women seeking medical assistance.
