KATHMANDU: Rastriya Ekata Abhiyan organized a rally in Kathmandu to voice their opposition against the recent controversial statement made by the Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Chen Song.

During the protest, demonstrators chanted slogans demanding the recall of the Chinese ambassador, denouncing Chinese expansionism, insisting on non-interference in Nepal’s internal affairs, and expressing concerns about the possibility of falling into a debt trap.

The rally, under the leadership of Vinay Yadav, the central coordinator of the campaign, commenced from Babar Mahal and proceeded to New Baneshwar, where it transformed into a corner meeting.

Yadav strongly accused China of attempting to exert control over Nepal akin to its actions in Tibet and Taiwan. He criticized the Chinese ambassador for seemingly prioritizing strategies to ensnare Nepal in a debt trap over fostering stronger Nepal-China relations.

Furthermore, Yadav expressed his dismay at the Chinese Ambassador’s suggestion that Nepal should diminish its economic ties with India and draw closer to China, deeming it an inappropriate interference in Nepal’s economic sovereignty.

Yadav emphasized that China’s meddling in Nepal’s internal affairs poses a significant threat to the country’s national independence and sovereignty, calling on the Nepalese government to take resolute action and recall the Chinese ambassador.

Dr. Prabhat Kushwaha, General Secretary of the Abhiyan, explained that the rally aimed to oppose the controversial remarks of the Chinese ambassador and called on the Nepalese government to reevaluate its relations with China. He stressed the importance of Nepal maintaining its traditional ties with India while avoiding becoming overly reliant on China’s economic and political influence.

Other participants in the rally expressed their condemnation of the Chinese ambassador’s statement and joined the call for the Nepalese government to recall him. They raised concerns about China’s perceived efforts to exert control over Nepal and undermine its sovereignty.
