Lumbini All Stars clinches Nepal T-20 League

KATHMANDU: Defeating Biratnagar Super Kings by 24 runs, Lumbini All Stars won the title of Nepal T20 League 2023.

Chasing a target of 134 runs in the low scoring match played at the TU International Cricket Ground, Kirtipur on Wednesday, Biratnagar managed to score only 109 runs after losing 8 wickets in the allotted overs.

For Biratnagar, opener Arjun Saud scored the highest 34 runs in 40 balls. Another opener Gauransu Sharma was dismissed for 4 runs. Captain Rohit Kumar Paudel was dismissed in the first ball. Hussain Talat was run out for 13 runs off 8 balls. Prithu Baskota scored 31 runs off 29 balls.

In bowling, Lumbini’s Sagar Dhakal and Harmeet Singh took 2 wickets each. Bipul Sharma and Kishore Mahato took 1 wicket each.

Before that, Lumbini, which won the toss and batted first, was bowled out in 19.2 overs. Despite a good start, the performance of the batsmen in the middle order was not as expected and Lumbini was reduced to a poor total of 133 runs.

Openers Harmeet Singh and Lahiru Milantha got off to a good start with a partnership of 64 runs. Harmeet was dismissed for 30 runs and Lahiru for 41 runs. Captain Dipendra Singh Airee scored 20 runs and Ishan Pand scored 18 runs, but none of the rest could score in double digits.

Biratnagar, which used 6 bowlers, saw all bowlers taking wickets. Nandan Yadav and Raj Nanan took 2 wickets each. Hussain Talat, Kane Joseph, Surya Tamang and captain Rohit Kumar Paudel took 1 wicket each. Surya gave only 8 runs while bowling 4 overs.

Lumbini became the champion after losing 2 matches in 12 matches. Lumbini, which reached the top position in the league with 8 wins out of 10, reached the playoffs and reached the final after defeating Janakpur Royals in the first qualifier.

Biratnagar, who became the runner-up, defeated Kathmandu Knights in the eliminator and reached the final by defeating Janakpur in the second qualifier.

Along with the title, Lumbini will get a prize of 5.5 rupees. Biratnagar, the runner-up, will get a prize of 3 million rupees.

Janakpur Royals which came third will get Rs 1 million and Kathmandu Knights who came fourth will get 500 thousand rupees.

The best player of the league will get 500 thousand rupees and the best batsman and bowler will get 250 thousand each.
