Egyptian nabbed at TIA with 6.5 kg of illegally smuggled gold

KATHMANDU: An Egyptian national has been apprehended at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) for attempting to smuggle 6.590 grams of gold into Nepal from Dubai.

DIG Arjun Chand Thakuri of the Airport Security Office reported that the arrest took place on Saturday night.

It has been learnt that the gold, in powdered form, was cleverly concealed to evade detection by metal detectors during security clearance.

The smuggler managed to pass through customs before being detained, utilizing a pocket on the inner side of his jacket to transport the gold.

This incident follows the recent arrest by the Tribhuvan Customs Office of Chandra Ghale and Min Bahadur Ghale from Gorkha, charged with smuggling 14 kg of gold on Thursday.
