KATHMANDU: On Sunday, the Kathmandu Valley experienced its coldest day of the year so far, with a recorded temperature of 6.2 degrees Celsius at 6 AM, according to the Meteorological Forecasting Division.

This marks a new low for the year, as the previous record stood at 7.4 degrees Celsius. The Weather Forecasting Division attributes this cold spell to a partial influence of westerly winds across the country, resulting in diverse weather conditions.

The Division predicts partly cloudy skies in hilly areas and generally clear weather in the rest of the country. Some parts of the Terai region may experience foggy conditions. In the afternoon, Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces are expected to have clear skies in hilly areas, while other regions will enjoy overall clear conditions. Additionally, the Division anticipates light snowfall in select locations in the high hills and Himalayan areas of Koshi and Gandaki provinces.

Tonight, clear weather is anticipated in the hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki, with the rest of the country also experiencing generally clear conditions. As temperatures continue to drop, the Division advises the public to take necessary precautions to mitigate potential effects.
