First int’l conference on disaster preparedness, and management to take place on December 1-3



KAVREPALANCHOWK: The first international conference on disaster preparedness and management will be organized in Dhulikhel in Kavrepalanchok.

The conference is scheduled to take place at Dhulikhel Community Hospital on December 1-3. Disaster experts from various countries will participate in the three-day conference where they will hold a comprehensive discussion on disaster preparedness adopted by various countries of the world, it has been said.

Following the discussion, new methods of disaster preparedness and management will be adopted by Dhulikhel Hospital and other health institutions, said Prof Dr Balaram Malla, coordinator of the committee. There will be a broad discussion on disasters, their impact and shock, the emergence of rescue and its communication, and various preparedness, inter-department, inter-hospital, and communication coordination during disasters, he said.

The conference will discuss and share the experiences of over 4,000 victims of the 2015 devastating earthquake who received treatment at once, the preparations to be adopted by health institutions during disasters, and the role of the stakeholders, it has been said.

Experts from various countries will present working papers at the conference. The conference will also make a plan for disaster risk reduction and preparedness.

The hospital said it was making preparations to provide patients with medical treatment in a feasible way when they are brought to the hospital from all over Kavrepalanchok except for a few places within a few hours of the disaster.
