KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) is poised to spearhead efforts to establish a government in Koshi province under its own leadership.
This development emerged during an official meeting held on Tuesday morning at President Sher Bahadur Deuba’s residence in Dhumbarahi.
During the discussion, NC President Deuba reiterated the party’s stance on forming a coalition government in Koshi with the Nepali Congress taking the lead.
He emphasized the importance of maintaining the current alliance while actively seeking support from additional political parties.
The NC is committed to involving the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) in the Koshi government and is preparing to engage in discussions with RPP Chairman Rajendra Lingden.
Deuba is also scheduled to meet Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda to discuss the prospect of once again establishing a government under Nepali Congress leadership in Koshi.
Following the resignation of Koshi Chief Minister Hikmat Karki last week, Provincial Chief Parashuram Khapung has set a deadline for government formation by 5 pm on Friday, in accordance with Clause 5 of Article 168 of the Constitution.
Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party leader Uddhav Thapa and UML Parliamentary Party Leader Hikmat Karki have both previously served as Chief Ministers of Koshi.
Should they fail to secure a majority, their government would face collapse within a month.
