Public awareness campaign against cybercrime

NEPALGUNJ: Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City has launched awareness campaign to control cybercrimes.

Ward No 18 of the Sub-Metropolis provided orientation to the secondary level students in a bid to reduce cybercrime, according to ward chairperson Dipak Kumar Verma.

“The public awareness is launched by targeting the secondary level and college students and teachers,” Verma said, expressing worry over rising cases of cybercrime.

The campaign will be launched throughout Sub-Metropolis. Police Inspector at District Police Office, Banke, Naresh BK, informed that such campaign should be continued to reduce growing incidents of internet-related crimes.

Inspector BK further said the youths and teenagers were sharing passwords of their social networking accounts which ultimately become bone of contention.

“It is better to share passwords with parents rather than with boyfriend/girlfriend. It may help reduce cybercrimes,” he said, adding that even the parents must keep close watch on their children.

In the awareness programme, Police Inspector BK further said parent’s monitoring on children as what they do, whom they make friendship is imperative.

Cyber awareness among parents is equally important, according to him. Chief District Officer in Banke, Bipin Acharya, said youths are more in number to use internet, so they have significant role to control cybercrime.

He appreciated the initiatives taken by the wards to address this emerging form of crime.

Police Chief in Banke, Santosh Singh Rathaur, also suggested parents to monitor children effectively.

However, crime control is a common responsibility, he added.
