PM Dahal granted amnesty to Resham Chaudhary to cling to power: Shekhar Koirala

KATHMANDU: Shekhar Koirala, Nepali Congress (NC) leader, has alleged that Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” granted amnesty to Resham Chaudhary, defying court orders, in a bid to retain power.

Speaking at a program in Bhaktapur on Saturday, Koirala emphasized that the act of granting amnesty to Chaudhary, despite the rulings of all three courts, poses a threat to democracy.

Koirala stated, “Despite the rulings made by three courts—the High Court, the District Court, and the Supreme Court—the President has pardoned Chaudhary.”

Koirala also voiced his objection to the government’s decision of placing the District Election Office under the jurisdiction of the District Administration Office.

Koirala put forth his argument, stating that the government’s decision to question the independence and impartiality of the Election Commission by placing the District Election Office under the District Administration Office compelled him and other parties to oppose it.
