Govt should provide support to populace affected by economic downturn: Madhav Nepal

POKHARA: CPN-Unified Socialist Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal has called for government intervention to support those impacted by the economic downturn.

He emphasized the necessity for relief programs, particularly for business owners and borrowers affected by the current crisis.

Speaking at a press conference organized by the Socialist Press Organization Nepal in Pokhara, Chairman Nepal stressed the urgency of economic recovery, urging against passivity in addressing the nation’s economic challenges. He highlighted the need for vigorous efforts to revitalize the economy.

“Entrepreneurs are facing severe hardships. The surge in interest rates is burdensome. Attention must be directed towards individuals who, despite taking bank loans, have seen a downturn in their enterprises and businesses,” he emphasized.

Nepal’s Unified Socialist, although a partner in the ruling coalition, has been advocating for the eradication of irregularities and deviations within the government. He underscored the importance of increasing agricultural production and creating employment opportunities for youth as pivotal steps in fostering a resilient economy.

In a different context, he accused Gandaki Province Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey of breaching agreements by excluding the Unified Socialist from the province government.
