KATHMANDU: Rabi Lamichhane, Chairman of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has embarked on an international tour to engage with Nepali nationals residing abroad, starting with visits to Malaysia and Qatar. The purpose of his visit is to garner votes and support from the Nepali diaspora for the upcoming 2084 BS election.

Lamichhane, who returned from Malaysia on December 6, held discussions with Nepali nationals there and met with Nepali Ambassador for Malaysia, Dilli Raj Poudel. The visit is part of the party’s efforts to connect with the significant number of Nepali migrant workers abroad, particularly in countries like Malaysia and Qatar.

Vice-Chairman Dhol Prasad Aryal emphasized that the visit aims to take stock of the concerns and perspectives of Nepali citizens abroad and inform the government accordingly. The party has been advocating for the rights of Nepali nationals living abroad to cast their votes in elections, and Lamichhane’s visit aligns with this objective.

“We will preserve the rights of Nepali nationals living abroad to cast their votes in elections at any cost. It is good news not only for our party but for all,” stated Vice-Chair Aryal. The party believes that the support from Nepali nationals abroad played a significant role in the 2079 BS elections.

Mukul Dhakal, General Secretary and Spokesperson of the party, highlighted that many youths supporting the RSP are currently residing abroad. The visit is strategically planned to connect with this demographic and strengthen the party’s base.

The Election Commission has expressed its commitment to allowing Nepali nationals living abroad to cast their votes in the next election. According to Election Commissioner Dinesh Thapaliya, the commission has already forwarded a draft of the bill to the Home Ministry for this purpose.

Rabi Lamichhane is scheduled to continue his global outreach with a visit to the United Kingdom on December 10, further extending the party’s engagement with the Nepali diaspora.
