Ministers, including the Prime Minister, to donate one month’s salary to earthquake victims

KATHMANDU: In a compassionate move, all members of the Council of Ministers, including the Prime Minister, have resolved to donate one month’s salary to support earthquake victims.

Government Spokesperson Rekha Sharma conveyed this decision, which was made during the Council of Ministers’ meeting on Thursday.

Additionally, a decision was reached to allocate 5 rupees per liter of the infrastructure charge on fuel to fund the Budhigandaki hydropower project. Minister Sharma indicated that this would help accelerate the construction of the Budhigandaki hydropower project.

“Furthermore, the government will initiate a feasibility study of the Karnali Chisapani hydropower project through the Nepal Electricity Authority,” stated Sharma.

Moreover, the Cabinet decided to elevate the status of cricket grounds in Biratnagar, Morang, Mulpani in Kathmandu, and the Bharatpur cricket stadium in Chitwan to national pride projects.

In a move to progress the construction of the Nijgadh International Airport, the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation has been instructed to implement the recommendations of the expert group’s report. “The construction process of Nijgadh airport will move forward,” confirmed spokesperson Sharma.

Finally, the Council of Ministers has sanctioned the establishment of a Nepali embassy in Portugal and has appointed Sanil Nepal as its ambassador.
