BANKE: At least seven people died in a bus accident in Banke last night.

The accident occurred as a bus, ferrying members of a local community forest in Banke, collided with a truck, resulting in the loss of seven lives and leaving 34 others injured.

The incident unfolded when a speeding bus with the license plate Na 7 Kha 2321 collided with a parked truck bearing the registration Na 8 Kha 6405, near the Rapti Sonari Rural Municipality-8 in Banke’s forest.

The Banke District Police Office confirmed the incident.

DSP Narayan Dangi, from the District Police Office in Banke, stated that the accident involved officials from the Bethani Community Forest Consumer Committee in Thakurdwara Municipality 9, Bardiya, and passengers on the ill-fated bus.

“The accident occurred during a trip reserved by officials and consumers of the Forest Consumer Group,” DSP Dangi stated.

Among the casualties were seven individuals, including the bus driver, Juk Bahadur Chand, who lost their lives in the accident.

The other victims were identified as Kashiram Tharu, Kasturi Thapa, Rupa Pariyar, Jayanthi Tharu, and Sadhuram Tharu.

DSP Dangi further informed that the co-driver of the bus, whose name has not yet been disclosed, also succumbed to the accident.

The injured passengers are currently receiving medical attention, with four of them undergoing treatment at Nepalgunj Nursing Home and the remaining at the Medical College in Kohalpur.

Two of the injured individuals are in critical condition.
