CPN-UML likely to disrupt today’s HoR meeting as well

KATHMANDU: The main opposition party, CPN-UML, is poised to once again obstruct today’s session of the House of Representatives (HoR).

The party has continued obstructing the parliamentary proceedings, pressing for the establishment of a high-level probe committee to investigate a significant gold smuggling case.

The CPN-UML lawmakers disrupted Tuesday’s assembly as well, expressing their dissatisfaction with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha’s handling of the gold smuggling issue within the parliamentary discourse.

On Tuesday, Members of Parliaments voiced against House disruption under any pretext stating that the House should continue its business rather than its disruptions to express dissatisfaction or pile pressure to meet the demands of the opposition and ruling parties.

Earlier, Minister for Home Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha expressed his commitment to bring the investigation into the gold smuggling scam to a logical conclusion and to book the culprit at any cost.

DPM Shrestha assured that the incumbent government would lay all of its focus on an impartial investigation into the scam. “The government will focus on the investigation. Let’s create an enabling environment for the government to take the investigation to a logical conclusion,” he stated.

It may be noted that the Department of Revenue Investigation seized 155 kg of gold smuggled in brake shoes in front of the Office of Customs at Tribhuvan International Airport on July 18.
