SC orders to produce recently validated Citizenship Bill

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has ordered to produce a copy of the Citizenship Bill certified by President Ramchandra Paudel.

After hearing a writ petition filed against President Paudel’s validation of the Citizenship Bill, the division bench of Justice Prakashman Singh Raut and Sushmalata Mathema ordered the submission of the letter sent by the government to the President to certify the Bill.

Realizing it will be difficult to manage the debate between a large number of legal practitioners in the limited time on Friday, the bench ordered to schedule the hearing for next Tuesday.

Earlier, the bench of Justice Manoj Sharma had issued an interlocutory interim order, on June 4, not to implement the recently validated Bill.

The bill which the then President Bidya Devi Bhandari refused to certify was certified by President Paudel on May 31.

The government recommended the bill for approval
