KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) lawmaker Ramhari Khatiwada has objected to the removal of the Jalahari scam-related statement from the parliament record and demanded the end of such tradition of removing records from the parliament.

Speaking in the ongoing meeting of the House of Representatives on Friday, lawmaker Khatiwada argued that the tradition of removing remarks about corruption or misappropriation weakens the parliamentary system.

“The tradition of removing remarks against the corruption or misappropriation is against the parliamentary system,” he said, adding, “It is not good to curtail the right of freedom of expression of the lawmakers and the parliament.”

He also expressed his objection that the Jalahari scam a lawmaker pointed out was suppressed and the remarks were removed from the parliament record.

“Removing the comments on the corruption scam already included in the Auditor General’s report shows that our system is not strong enough to hear and discuss corruption issues,” he said, adding, “The tradition should end now.”

CPN-Maoist Center lawmaker Lekhnath Dahal’s accusation that CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli should be made the subject of an investigation on the Jalahari-scam.

There are reports that there had been misappropriation while installing gold Jalahari at Pashupatinath temple.
