EC holding discussion with political parties today



KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) is holding a discussion with major political parties today.

Shaligram Sharma Paudel, Spokesperson and Joint Secretary of the EC, announced that a meeting has been scheduled with the participation of political parties at 11:30 am today.

In the budget speech delivered by Finance Minister Prakash Sharan Mahat, it was decided to abolish all electoral offices.

Following the announcement, the EC promptly issued a press release expressing concern that the decision to abolish the existing structures could potentially jeopardize the independence, autonomy, and integrity of the constitutional body.

The Commission also discussed this issue with Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha.

Home Minister Shrestha also said that he would discuss the matter with Finance Minister Mahat and take the necessary decision.

The Commission is discussing this matter with the political parties.

Spokesman Sharma also said that discussions are also going to be held regarding the election law bill and the collection of voter list in collaboration with the local level.
