Binod Choudhary’s illegal construction of apartments troubles locals



KATHMANDU: Lalitpur locals have become the victim of illegal construction undergoing under the name of Summit Apartments in Bakhundol, Lalitpur.

Nepali Congress lawmaker and Industrialist Binod Chaudhary’s under-construction apartment has put the surrounding houses into trouble.

Two houses buildings have collapsed while digging the foundation of Chaudhary’s Summit Apartment. It is said that the ground floor of one six-storied house has crashed and half a dozen houses have been damaged.

Many people got injured in their attempt to run away from the collapsing houses.

Lalitpur locals have criticized Chaudhary for illegally building an apartment and causing damage to their private property.

According to Lalitpur Metropolis officials, the company started work without taking formal process and without taking approval for the construction.

The source claimed that Lalitpur Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan called Chaudhary and talked to him about the damages caused by the construction of Summit Apartment.

“Mayor Maharjan called industrialist Chaudhary to his office and met him,” the official said, adding, “the Mayor discussed about the damages caused by the Apartment.”

Although no details of the talks have been revealed, Mayor Maharjan has assured the locals of the due compensation.

In the meantime, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Dr. Toshima Karki has demanded to compensate the victims and punish the guilty ones.

After inspecting the damaged houses on Saturday morning, Dr. Karki demanded compensation for the victims and action against the culprits.

She even talked to Mayor Maharjan about this.

Lawmaker Karki also expressed her commitment to give justice to the locals.
