Kamal Thapa proposes royalist front, suggests Durga Prasai’s inclusion

KATHMANDU: Kamal Thapa, the Chairman of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal, has advocated for the formation of a royalist front, suggesting that medical entrepreneur and campaigner Durga Prasai could be a part of it.

Despite the lack of unity among various monarchist groups, Thapa believes that progress can be made by establishing a front.

In an interview with Khabarhub, he expressed openness to the inclusion of Durga Prasai in such a front.

When asked about his perspective on the royalist movement initiated by Prasai, Thapa acknowledged the positive and negative comments about Prasai’s background and personality.

However, he emphasized the need to focus on current issues rather than delving into past actions.

Thapa stated, “If we walk around looking for who did what yesterday, we will not reach our goal. Everyone may have had some kind of weakness in the past.”

“There are no holy people. There may have been shortcomings from me too. Therefore, I do not want to discuss the past of Durga Prasai,” Thapa added.

Expressing his understanding of the issues raised by Durga, Thapa highlighted the relevance of the concerns he has voiced.

Thapa, also a former Deputy Prime Minister, noted the shared sentiments regarding the economic recession and crisis faced by the common people, particularly in the context of microfinance, cooperatives, and bank loans.

Thapa recognized the failure of the current system and acknowledged Prasai’s call for the restoration of the monarchy and the Hindu nation.

He drew parallels between their perspectives and emphasized the need for collective action.

While acknowledging questions about Durga Prasai’s working style and expression, Thapa emphasized that the sentiment of the people and public opinion cannot be solely organized by one individual.

He underscored the necessity of a united front and hinted at a slightly revolutionary approach to address the current crisis in the country.
