Madhes Province Govt issues 30-day ultimatum to Federal Govt

KATHMANDU: The Madhes province government has issued a one-month ultimatum to the federal government, demanding the transfer of authority as per the provisions of the Constitution related to the single list of provinces.

A delegation of ministers and leaders, led by Chief Minister Saroj Kumar Yadav, is set to visit Kathmandu to submit a manifesto to Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ on Thursday. Their demands include police adjustment, the Civil Servant Act, Guthi land regulations, and forest sector rights.

During a press conference organized by the Chief Minister’s Office on Wednesday to announce their intentions, Chief Minister Yadav expressed his resolve to fight for federalism since major political parties had shown indifference.

“The police administration’s authority is listed in our single list, but it has not been transferred to our control. A year ago, the Prime Minister promised to introduce the Police Adjustment Act and the Civil Service Act within three months after our repeated requests, but he failed to keep his word. The situation was different during the previous movement. That movement was not effective, but now we are determined to make progress.”

Chief Minister Yadav warned that if their demands are not met, they will escalate their protests from the provincial to the federal level and hold another press conference to update the public.
