Koshi getting UML’s Karki as CM, preparations underway for swearing in

KATHMANDU: Preparations are underway for the appointment of Hikmat Kumar Karki, the leader of the CPN-UML parliamentary party in Koshi Province, as the new Chief Minister.

Following a Supreme Court ruling that removed Uddhav Thapa from his position as Chief Minister and ordered the appointment of Karki as his successor within 48 hours, preparations for the transition began today.

Karki is poised to take the oath of office later today upon assuming the role of Chief Minister.

The Supreme Court issued a directive on Thursday, mandating the appointment of Hikmat Kumar Karki, the leader of the largest party in the Koshi Provincial Assembly, as the new Chief Minister.

In addition to the Chief Minister, the UML party is making arrangements for the swearing-in of two ministers today.

The Supreme Court, in its Thursday ruling, declared the vote of confidence obtained by the former Chief Minister of Koshi Province, Uddhav Thapa, as unconstitutional. Subsequently, the Court ordered the appointment of Hikmat Karki as Chief Minister, recognizing him as the leader of the largest party in the Provincial Assembly.
