RoK ambassador calls on Minister Bhandari

KATHMANDU: Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Nepal, Park Chong-suk, today paid a courtesy call on Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Damodar Bhandari.

During the meeting held at the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies, the two discussed about vivid dimensions of Nepal-Korea relations.  Nepal and Korea had established the diplomatic ties in 1974.

The RoK government provides assistances to Nepal in education, health, rural development and IT sectors through the KOICA (Korea International Corporation Agency).

On the occasion, the Minister apprised the South Korean diplomat that the Sudurpashim Province lagged behind of other provinces in terms of human development index, seeking the cooperation from the South Korea to build a polytechnic school, hospital and school buildings there.

Despite potentialities, export of Nepali goods to the South Korea had been challenging, the Minister said, urging the South Korea to cooperate with Nepal towards that end.  The Korean side was requested to invest in Nepal’s energy sector as well.

Stating that the government of Nepal had prioritized the policy-level reforms to attract potential investors to home, the Minister urged the ambassador for the contribution towards that end.

The Korean ambassador said currently 15,000 Nepali are employed in South Korea under the EPS system and they continued to influence the Korean Government since the beginning.

He took time to say that investors in South Korea were interested to expand their business to Nepal, too.

The ambassador urged the government to simplify visa acquisition process for Korean citizens and ensure the protection of investment from there.
