China pledges additional Rs 280 million aid package for Nepal’s earthquake victims

KATHMANDU: China has announced an additional aid package of approximately Rs 280 million to support the victims of Jajarkot of Nepal’s recent devastating earthquake.

Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Chen Song, announced this additional assistance via the social networking platform X.

Earlier, China had already committed relief materials worth Rs 10 crores for the earthquake-affected areas of Jajarkot and Rukum West, which endured significant human and material losses during the recent quake.

The initial shipment of these relief materials arrived on Monday through the Rasuwagadhi border crossing, making its way from Kerung to Kathmandu.

In an effort to further aid Nepal during this crisis, Ambassador Song stated that the Red Cross Society of China would be contributing 13 million RMB (equivalent to 133.1 million Nepali Rupees) for the earthquake victims.

China has designated this financial support as emergency cash assistance, with the intention of utilizing it for the relief efforts aimed at assisting the affected communities in Nepal.

Ambassador Song also said that the Chinese government had decided to allocate an additional 15 million RMB, equivalent to 26 million Nepalese rupees, as emergency financial aid for the earthquake victims.

In total, the Chinese Red Cross, along with the Chinese government, will be contributing a sum of Rs 279.3 million to aid the victims of Nepal’s recent earthquake.
