Court directs cooperative manager to return Rs 5.9 million to depositors

DHADING: The Dhading district court has made a decision in favor of Sana Kisan Krishi Sahakari Sanstha, Sanaula Bazaar, a local cooperative, in Dhading.

A group of 13 members, including Krishna Bahadur Shrestha on behalf of the cooperative had filed a case at the district court against its manager Leeladevi Pokharel Adhikari demanding the return of the deposits of its members as per the written document.

The case was registered at the court in July 2021 noting cooperative manager Pokharel had embezzled the deposit amount of the cooperative members by showing an operational loss.

A single bench of District Court justice Swikrit Parajuli, issuing an order on Tuesday, directed Pokharel to pay back over Rs 5.9 million as pledged in the written document, informed court’s registrar Khum Bhandari.

The cooperative had registered the case demanding the return of the principal amount with interest.

Nara Bahadur Bhandari, a member of the cooperative, said the court decision has protected the deposit of farmers.
