KATHMANDU: The government has declared Padam Limbu, who lost his life in the agitation against the naming of Koshi province, as a martyr.

Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Sudan Kiranti informed that the cabinet meeting held on Friday morning decided to declare Limbu a martyr.

The government has also decided to give compensation to his family.

“It has not been decided how much money will be provided,” he said.

Earlier, even though the Koshi State government had decided to give compensation of Rs 3 lakh to Limbu’s family, the protestors rejected the amount.

Limbu, who participated in the demonstration in Biratnagar on March 19, was injured by the police baton against the name of the province as Koshi.

He died on March 24 during treatment.
