KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu District Court has sentenced rape-accused Manoj Pandey, the owner of Model Global Visas Consultancy, to 7 years imprisonment.

District Court Kathmandu’s Information Officer Deepak Dahal informed that the bench of Justice Deepak Dhakal decided to sentence the accused to seven years imprisonment along with Rs 75,000 as compensation.

The public prosecutor filed a case in the Kathmandu District Court demanding 10 to 12 years imprisonment and compensation of 50,000 to 100,000 rupees.

Earlier, the district court had ordered Pandey to be imprisoned for 6 months and sought Rs 50,000 compensation to the victim in the case of child sexual abuse.

8 years ago, he was accused of raping a girl participating in a beauty pageant. After it was revealed that he had forced not only raped her but also provoked his friends to rape her, the police investigated him on human trafficking offence.

Based on the police investigation, the public prosecutor filed a case against Pandey for human trafficking and child sexual abuse.

At that time, there was a legal hurdle to file a case against him on the charge of raping a girl. Since the law requires filing a complaint of rape within 1 year, it was not possible to prosecute a rape case in this incident as the case was revealed after eight years.

The public prosecutor then prosecuted the case for human trafficking and child sexual abuse.
