SC does not issue an interim order; Home Minister Lamichhane’s post safe for the time being

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has refused to issue an interim order on the writ relating to the Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane’s citizenship dispute.

Hearing on the writ filed by advocate Yuvaraj Paudel ‘Safal’ and others seeking an interim order against Lamichhane’s position of lawmaker and Home Minister on Friday, the SC did not issue an interim order.

The writ petitioners argued that Lamichhane’s position of lawmaker, Rastriya Swatantra Party chairman and Home Minister should be revoked for he did not meet the criteria set to file the candidacy in the election for the House of Representatives member.

The writ petitioner claimed that Lamichhane had not cancelled his US Citizenship and had been using Nepali Citizenship that had gone void after he proceeded for US citizenship

Lamichhane’s secretary Deepak Bohora informed that the Constitutional Bench comprising acting Chief Justice Harikrishna Karki, Justices Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada, Anand Mohan Bhattarai, Anil Kumar Sinha and Prakashman Singh Raut affirmed that Lamichhane’s position as MP will remain intact.
