KATHMANDU: The government’s high-level investigation commission, entrusted with delving into the gold smuggling case, has initiated the process of recording statements from those implicated in the alleged crime.
Rahul, the son of former House Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara and a key figure in the gold smuggling scandal, has been summoned by the commission. Currently in custody due to his alleged involvement in the gold smuggling operation, Rahul is slated to provide his statement on Tuesday. Sources indicate that he will be escorted to Singha Durbar to undergo the questioning process.
Earlier, the Central Investigation Bureau of the Nepal Police had submitted a comprehensive investigative report identifying Mahara and his son Rahul as the masterminds behind the illicit gold transportation. The duo was allegedly linked to a gold smuggling syndicate that surreptitiously moved the precious metal by concealing it within an electronic cigarette device known as a ‘vape.’
