EC refuses to register Yuvraj Poudel’s complaint against Rabi Lamichhane

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has refused to validate Yuvraj Poudel Safal’s complaint against Rabi Lamichhane’s candidacy in Chitwan-2 by-election scheduled for April 23.

The Commission replied that it could not accept Poudel’s complaint against Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) chairman and Chitwan-2 by-election candidate Lamichhane as only the candidates contesting with Lamichhane could complaint against him that way.

Apart from Paudel, three other candidates who contested in Chitwan-2 have filed a complaint against Lamichhane.

According to EC sources, independent candidate Santosh Thapa, Rastriya Janamorcha candidate Janakraj Sharma’s representative Dumbar Puri and independent candidate Ambika Bhatt’s representative Shiv Bahadur Subedi have also reached the election commission’s office and lodged a complaint.

They claimed in the complaint that Lamichhane registered his candidacy based on the old voter list and could not be a candidate within three months of acquiring citizenship.

However, EC sources claimed that Lamichhane has updated his details as per the new citizenship.

SC is hearing on passport dispute related case against RSP Chair Lamichhane.
