PM Dahal takes stock of earthquake impact in Jajarkot

JAJARKOT: Prime Minister (PM) Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, who arrived in Jajarkot on Saturday morning, is assessing the impact of the earthquake that left a trail of destruction.

Prime Minister Dahal is accompanied by a 16-member medical team from the Nepali Army.

PM Dahal has instructed the concerned authorities for a swift response to the urgent medical needs of the affected areas.

He sought information about the district’s situation, engaging with Chief District Officer Suresh Sunar.

The death toll from the 6.4 magnitude Jajarkot earthquake has risen to 128, with 92 reported fatalities in Jajarkot and 36 in Rukum West.

As reported by the Prime Minister’s Office, the number of injured individuals has reached 140, with 55 in Jajarkot and 85 in Rukum West.

Efforts are underway to collect detailed information on the extent of the damage caused by the earthquake.

Meanwhile, a team of 67 APF personnel under the leadership of DSP Bikash Thapa has been deployed from Ashram Battalion in Jajarkot to search and rescue the earthquake survivors.

Similarly, a team of 24 members under the leadership of Armed Police Inspector Jhakku Prasad Sharma from No. 47 Battalion in Rukum West and 11 under the leadership of Sub-Inspector Bal Bahadur Thapa have deployed, said Thapa.

Likewise, the spokesperson of the Nepali Army, Krishna Prasad Bhandari, said that the Nepali Army personnel have been deployed for rescue and relief work in the earthquake-affected areas of Jajarkot and Rukum West.

An earthquake of magnitude 6.4 occurred at 11:47 pm on Friday, with its epicentre in Ramidanda in Barekot Rural Municipality-1 of Jajarkot.
