JAJARKOT: At least 63 people lost their lives in the devastating 6.4 magnitude earthquake that rocked Jajarkot last night, causing significant structural damage and leading to the collapse of numerous buildings.

The powerful tremors also resulted in hundreds of injuries in the affected area.

The impact of the earthquake was felt across Jajarkot and Rukum West, inflicting significant human casualties and material devastation.

Confirming the distressing toll, authorities stated that the death toll had risen to 63 across the two districts.

The National Earthquake Measurement Center reported that the earthquake, measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale, struck Jajarkot precisely at 11:47 PM last night, triggering widespread panic and chaos.

Tragically, Sarita Singh, deputy head of Nalgad municipality in Jajarkot, was among the victims claimed by the disaster.

Jajarkot police chief DSP Kishor Shrestha stated that Singh lost her life as her residence collapsed while she was asleep in Khalanga.

The impact of the seismic jolts originating from Ramedanda in Jajarkot was not confined to the immediate area, as the tremors reverberated throughout the nation, including the capital, Kathmandu.

The aftermath of the calamity led to the obstruction of multiple roads by dry landslides, impeding the swift rescue operations for the injured, as reported by the police.
