Traffic restored on Prithvi Highway

MALEKHU: Traffic has resumed along the Prithvi Highway that remained obstructed following the death of two school students after being hit by a truck at Majuwa of Malekhu this morning.

Nirmal Shrestha and Sanjiv Shrestha of Siddhalek rural municipality-6 who were killed in the accident, and the irate locals had blocked the highway.

The truck with the registration number plate Pradesh 02-001 Kha 6413 en route to Chitwan from Kathmandu hit the two eighth graders at the Bageshwori Secondary School to death as they were on the way to the school. They died on the spot.

According to District Police Office’s Deputy Superintendent of Police, Santulal Prasad Jaiswal, the highway resumed after a meeting between the agitating side and police reached a conclusion. As per the agreement, the school will manage a dedicated bus for school children and the victims’ families will be provided appropriate compensation.

Truck driver Ashok Bamjan, 41, of Rautahat Chandrapur municipality-2 has been apprehended by the police.
