17 Nepali reported missing in Uttarakhand, India landslides

SURKHET: A total of 17 Nepali people individuals have been reported missing following a devastating landslide in Gaurikund, Uttarakhand state, India.

Among the missing, 10 individuals hail from Humla, while seven are from Jumla. The identities of some of the missing individuals have been disclosed: Chandra Kami and his son Lal Bahadur Kami from Jumla, Sukhara Rawat, and his son Jora Rawat are among those unaccounted for.

The landslide swept away a hotel in Gaurikund, which was operated by a person identified as Bir Bahadur from Humla. Along with Bir Bahadur, his wife Sumitra, daughter Nisha, and son Hari Bahadur are also reported missing, although their surnames have not been disclosed.

The missing list also includes Dharmaraj Budha and his son Man Bahadur Budha, who were present at Bir Bahadur’s hotel during the disaster.

Amar Bohara, along with his sons Man Bahadur, Prithvi, Jatil, and Wakil, his wife Anita, and daughters Radhika and Pinky, are also among those reportedly missing. The location of their residence is yet to be disclosed.

Uttarakhand Police are actively conducting search and rescue operations to locate the missing individuals.

However, the heavy rainfall in the region is posing significant challenges to their efforts.

Notably, the majority of the injured individuals from the Karnali region had gone to India for employment, and it is reported that out of the 19 missing persons, 17 are Nepali nationals.
