Inmates set fire to jail in Jhapa

JHAPA: A violent clash erupted among inmates at the Jhapa district jail in Bhadrapur, resulting in a fire that broke out within the prison premises.

The incident was sparked by a protest initiated by the prisoners against the decision to transfer an inmate, Manoj Lawati, to Jhumka Jail in Sunsari.

During the confrontation, inmates engaged in stone-pelting, leading to the outbreak of a fire inside the jail. Thick plumes of smoke were seen emanating from the facility, indicating the severity of the situation.

Efforts to control the fire are underway, with fire brigades from Bhadrapur, Mechinagar, and Birtamod on the scene attempting to extinguish the flames.

To manage the escalating situation, a significant contingent of Armed Police and Nepal Police personnel have been deployed outside the prison premises.

Further details regarding the extent of the damage, injuries sustained during the clash, and measures taken to restore order remain forthcoming. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and conducting investigations to determine the cause and nature of the clash.

Updates on the incident will be provided as the situation develops.
