Omicron variant spreading in Nepal: MoHP

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Health and Population has stated that Coronavirus infection is increasing in Nepal due to the seasonal cold.

Issuing a statement here today, Joint spokesperson of the ministry, Dr Samir Kumar Adhikari said that new variant of the Coronavirus Omicron XBB 1.16 has been found in the neighboring countries leading to rising infection in Nepal.

When 24 samples were tested, the Omicron variant was confirmed in all 24, according to the Ministry.

The National Public Health Laboratory has so far confirmed eight variants of Omicron so far.

In the statement, the Ministry has called for multi-sector support and coordination including vaccination, and observing public health standards to prevent COVID-19 pandemic, which is still not fully under control.

Meanwhile today, 76 people have been found infected with the Coronavirus.
