KATHMANDU: The Judicial Committee national convention is going to be held in Kathmandu from March 29 to 30 this year.

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has invited representatives from the Judicial Committee at all 753 local units all over the country to the convention.

KMC deputy mayor and coordinator of the Judicial Committee of the KMC Sunita Dangol informed that the convention is going serve as a platform for the representatives to share their experiences of delivering justices at the local level.

A Judicial Committee Main Organizing Committee has been organized under the convenorship of deputy mayor Dangol to prepare for the national convention.

Participants will deliberate of the concept of Judicial Committee, legal provisions in Judicial Committee, Judicial Committee’s jurisdiction in justice delivery and its practices among others.

The convention will also incorporate discussions on reconciliation process in the local disputes resolution bid and how to promote the practice of resolving local disputes at the local levels.

The Constitution provision has it that each Judicial Committee will have three-member Judicial Committee at each local level coordinated by vice-chairs in rural municipality and deputy mayor in municipalities.

The Committee has been enshrined authority to reconcile or settle disputes related to issues such as border/boundary of land, financial transactions and domestic disputes among others.

The participants will share their experiences of good practices exercised by such committees in the past 10 months, challenges facing the delivery of justice among others.

Over 1,000 participants are expected to participate in the convention that will elect office-bearers for the national network.

The convention will conclude by issuing Declaration of Dispute Resolution-2079 BS.
