Firewood distributed to keep people protected from cold spell



KANCHANPUR: Local government units of Kanchanpur have distributed log and firewood in different intersections to allow people to keep warm around the fire so as to protect from bone-chilling cold.

The local government units arranged firewood and log for the affected population with the assistance of community forests and Shuklaphanta National Park.

The cold wave caused by plummeting temperature has hardest hit the disadvantaged families, children and senior citizens.

In order to protect them from the cold, arrangement of firewood and log was made to enable the people to keep warm around fire, shared Shuklaphanta municipality-11 chair Sher Bahadur Saud.

In coordination with the national park office, two tipper of firewood was distributed to the affected people, he added.

Likewise, Krishnapur municipality and Bedkot municipality have also made arrangement for firewood in rural areas with the assistance of community forests.

“It is the responsibility of the local governments to protect the lives of the people”, said chairperson of Shuklaphanta municipality-10, Lal Bahadur Eir, adding that arrangement of firewood and logs was placed to keep the people away from cold.

Chairperson of Bedkot municipality-9 Janak Bahadur Bista said logs were distributed in the needy areas as per the demand of the people.

Thick fog in the morning and cold wave in the day time has invariably affected the lives here. Some local government units of Kanchanpur have closed the schools for a week in view of rising cold.
