BIRATNATGAR: After Koshi Province Chief Minister Kedar Karki appointed ministers from the CPN-Maoist Center and CPN-Unified Socialist Party, the CPN-UML decided to withdraw from the Koshi government.

UML parliamentary party leader Hikmat Kumar Karki stated that UML will not participate in the coalition with parties that have recently aligned themselves with the federal government.

“We have not received any information about the appointment of ministers from other parties,” Karki said, adding, “We were not part of the current coalition, we weren’t there yesterday, we are not there today, and we will not be there tomorrow. We have already made this decision.”

Ram Bahadur Rana of UML is a minister in the Koshi government.

Previously, UML had warned the government that if parties other than the Nepali Congress participated in the government, they would withdraw their support. Chief Minister Karki appointed Ganesh Upreti from the Maoist Center and Ganesh Prasad Jabegu from the Unified Socialist Party as ministers on Friday.

Kedar Karki was appointed Chief Minister on October 16 with the support of all UML and 8 Nepali Congress MPs. Earlier, Chief Minister Karki had also appointed Shumsher Rai of the NC as a minister.
