SUNSARI: The Itahari sub-metropolitan city of Sunsari has decided not to allow three-wheeler e-rickshaws to ply on the main highway.

The e-rickshaws have been banned on the main highway starting today due to the increase in road accidents in Itahari, said Hemkarna Paudel, Mayor of Itahari.

The e-rickshaws registered in Itahari sub-metropolitan city will only be allowed to operate within the sub-metropolitan city.

He said that this decision was made based on an agreement reached between the Itahari area police office, traffic police office, Itahari sub-metropolitan city and the e-rickshaw operators.

According to the sub-metropolis, traffic management will be facilitated by numbering the e-rickshaws following the due process.

Though there are about 5000 e-rickshaws operating in Itahari only 1,100 are said to have been registered in Itahari.
