Bishwombhar Prasad Shrestha recommended Chief Justice

The Constitutional Council (CC) has recommended senior most Justice at Supreme Court, Bishwombhar Prasad Shrestha as the new Chief Justice. The Council meeting held at Prime Minister’s Office, Singha Durbar on Thursday recommended Shrestha as the future Chief Justice, according to Chairman of National Assembly, Ganesh Prasad Timilsina.

Govt rejects another committee to probe into gold smuggling case

The government has clarified that there was no need of forming a high-level probe committee to investigate the recent gold smuggling scam as an investigation into it was already underway. Minister of Communications and Information Technology Rekha Sharma clarified that a high-level probe committee was not necessary as the Department of Revenue Investigation has started investigating the scam.

NC leader Koirala raises objections over exoneration of former PMs in Lalita Niwas case

Dr. Shekhar Koirala, a prominent leader of the Nepali Congress (NC), has expressed concerns over the alleged attempt to exonerate former Prime Ministers involved in the Lalita Niwas land case. Speaking at a program held in Kathmandu on Thursday, Dr. Koirala stated that when the investigation started implicating prominent leaders, a new scandal was brought forward to divert attention.

No corrupt will be spared: Home Minister Shrestha

Home Minister Narayankaji Shrestha on Thursday said acting on the advice of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, the government has opened the corruption file, vowing not to spare anyone involved, even if they belong to the party. During the central committee meeting that commenced on Wednesday, Shrestha, who also holds the positions of Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister, emphasized the need for the party to rebuild itself through unity and by building upon the government’s positive achievements.

Body of missing boy in Samakhushi river found in Dakshinkali after 11 days

The body of a boy who went missing after falling into the Samakhushi River in Kathmandu on July 23 was found in Dakshinkali. SP Kumod Dhungel stated that the body of a 13-year-old boy Bidhan Ale Magar (Sajan) who was washed away in the flood of Samakhushi river was found after 11 days.

RPP seeks applications, offering opportunities for youth leadership

The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has invited applications from interested individuals across the country for its 20 central member positions. As the party said, the move aims to make its leadership more youth-friendly and inclusive. Any interested individual below the age of 40 is eligible to apply for these positions.

Mahara refutes involvement in gold smuggling case

Krishna Bahadur Mahara, Spokesperson of the Maoist Center, has reiterated that he has no involvement in the gold smuggling case that is under investigation. In a social media post on Thursday morning, Mahara emphasized that he has already made it explicitly clear that he is not connected to the gold smuggling case and wishes to reinforce this statement.

KU to introduce four-year course on geology and mining engineering

The Dhulikhel-based Kathmandu University (KU) has come up with the concept of ‘one local level, one mining engineer’. In a bid to implement this concept, the KU would be introducing a four-year course on geology and mining engineering from the current academic session, it is said.

Lalitpur reports 1,431 cases of lumpy skin

The cases of lumpy skin, a viral infection on cattle, are on the rise in Lalitpur. The disease that is transmitted by the bites from insects like flies, mosquitoes and ticks has so far affected 1,431 animals with 83 fatalities since mid-April, according to Veterinary Hospital and Livestock Service Centre Lalitpur’s Dr Nisha Timilsina.

Kathmandu metropolis to launch COVID-19 vaccination campaign

The Kathmandu metropolis has decided to once again launch a Covid-19 vaccination drive targeting nine wards from coming August 6. The vaccination will continue till August 9. According to Kathmandu Metropolitan City Office health department chief Ram Prasad Paudel, the campaign aims to vaccine individuals above 12 years of age.

Five arrested for threatening people in Kathmandu

A team of the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office has arrested five persons on the charge of their involvement in threatening general people from Jorpati. The arrestees have been accused of reaching and unnecessarily picking disputes, issuing threats and creating terrors among general people in places including Bauddha and Jorpati in the Kathmandu Valley.
