Deliberations on Appropriation Bill-2080 begins in National Assembly



KATHMANDU: The National Assembly has begun deliberations on the Appropriation Bill- 2080 BS that was earlier endorsed by the House of Representatives.

As per the preliminary schedule, the meeting will discuss budget allocations to the Ministry of Forests and Environment, the Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Urban Development, and the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies for the upcoming fiscal year 2023-24.

Upper house members Indira Devi Gautam, Bhagawati Neupane, Sonam Gelzen Sherpa, Sumitra BC, and Narapati Luwar have proposed the budget reduction to these ministries.

The matter of caste-based discrimination against Dalits was raised in the meeting. The meeting drew the government’s attention over an alleged incidence of untouchability in Dang. A Dalit student was allegedly forced to leave a rented room in Tulasipur of Dang upon the revelation of his caste.

The NA directed the government to investigate the issue and deal it with by law.

Likewise, Minister for Education, Science, and Technology, Ashok Kumar Rai, is scheduled to propose the meeting to begin deliberations on the Nepal University Bill, 2079 BS along with the report of the Legislative Management Committee.
