SC to hear on writ petition against AG’s decision on Rabi Lamichhane’s passport dispute on Tuesday

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) decided to hear on Tuesday on the writ petition filed against the Attorney General’s Office not to file a case against Rastriya Swatantra Party Chairman Rabi Lamichhane in the passport dispute.

Yuvraj Safal filed a writ in the Supreme Court against the decision of the Attorney General on Sunday afternoon.

The writ will be registered by the Supreme Administration today.

Earlier, Safal resubmitted the writ making minor procedural corrections after the SC demurred to take any action instantly.
“We are in the process of registration,” said Bimal Paudel, spokesperson of the Supreme Court, adding, “The writ registered today will be heard for the first time tomorrow.”

On March 20, Attorney General Dinmani Pokharel decided not to file a case against Lamichhane for misuse of his passport.

Before that, District Public Prosecutor’s Office Kathmandu, and High Public Prosecutor’s Office Patan had submitted a report to the Attorney General’s Office that there was no need to prosecute Lamichhane.

On the day Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ took the vote of confidence, Attorney General Pokharel decided not to prosecute Lamichhane.

RSP chairman Lamichhane had taken a Nepali passport despite having an American passport, and a complaint was lodged with the Ministry of Home Affairs to investigate and prosecute him.
