DHANGADHI: Arun Kumar Chaudhary, Member of Parliament from Kailali-2, who was sentenced to 6 months imprisonment in the 13-year-old arson incident, has been sent to jail.

He was arrested in Banke on Thursday.

The police produced him in the Kailali District Court on Friday morning.

Section 155 of the Civil Code of Criminal Procedure Act, 2074 provides that ‘an amount may be paid for imprisonment of less than one year’.

Kailali District Court sentenced three people including Chaudhary to six months imprisonment and a fine of Rs 8 lakh 75 thousand in the case of setting fire to a tractor in 2066 BS.

The district court of Kailali on April 22, 2013 found the three guilty and sentenced them to imprisonment and imposed a fine.

The accused were absconding even for almost a decade after the verdict.

Among those found guilty, Bir Bahadur Chaudhary was arrested a week ago.

The Nagarik Unmukti Party has been opposing the arrest of MP Chaudhary.

Ranjita Shrestha, Chairman of the Party, said that even though permission from the Speaker should be obtained to arrest the MP, he was arrested without taking it.
