KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ emphasized the significance of the UN Climate Change Summit (COP-28) as an opportunity for Nepal to assert its position and benefit from this global event.

During an event at the Nepal pavilion held alongside COP-28 in Dubai, PM Dahal highlighted ongoing efforts to secure compensation for the climate-induced losses and damages experienced by Nepal.

“I have consistently advocated for Nepal’s plight in the UN General Assembly, considering the implications for future generations,” PM Dahal recalled, citing his discussions on this matter with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

PM Dahal credited the Secretary-General’s recent visit to Nepal and its mountainous regions for spotlighting Nepal’s climate-related challenges on the global stage.

He noted the growing momentum towards acknowledging Nepal’s entitlement to compensation for climate-related impacts. Furthermore, Dahal expressed satisfaction with Guterres’ reference to Nepal during the COP-28 inauguration speech on Friday.

Asserting climate change as a shared concern across generations, he urged the Nepali delegation to present a robust stance during climate negotiations and dialogues.
