SC overturns President’s decision to provide amnesty to Regal

The Supreme Court (SC) overturned the President’s decision to grant amnesty to Yograj Dhakal “Regal”, who was previously imprisoned for life in a murder case. The bench, comprising Acting Chief Justice Ishwor Prasad Khatiwada, and Justices Sapana Pradhan Malla and Kumar Chudal, made the decision today following a two-day hearing of arguments from both parties.

Yograj Dhakal “Regal” arrested

Police have arrested Yograj Dhakal “Regal” soon after the Supreme Court (SC) overturned his imprisonment on Thursday. Chief Superintendent of Police Subash Chandra Bohara, from the District Police Office Banke, said Regal was arrested in Nepalgunj. Regal has been arrested in Nepalgunj following the Supreme Court’s order.

President Paudel prorogues Federal Parliament session

President Ram Chanbdra Paudel has prorogued the current session of the Federal Parliament. President Paudel prorogued the session effective from today mid-night on the recommendation of the government. Earlier today, a meeting of the Council of Ministers held at Singha Durbar decided to recommend before the President to end the session effective from today mid-night.

UML laments government’s lackluster performance in Parliament

Vice Chairman of CPN-UML Bishnu Paudel has accused the government of hindering the effectiveness of the Parliament. Speaking during today’s meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR), UML leader Paudel expressed disappointment with the session’s progress. He questioned, “Why and because of whom has the House been unable to function effectively?”

Over 12,700 drivers in Kathmandu Valley face action in a week

The Traffic Police in Kathmandu Valley have escalated their efforts to curb violations of traffic regulations, resulting in punitive measures against 12,711 drivers from various areas within a week. According to the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, the recent campaign, spanning from October 26 until Thursday morning, led to the action of over 12,700 drivers.

Nepal suffered a defeat in their recent World Cup qualifier group stage match. In the encounter with Oman on Thursday, the Nepali team fell short by a margin of 5 runs. Oman won Nepal by 5 runs in the match played at the TU Cricket Ground in Kirtipur under the ICC T20 World Cup Asia Zone Qualifiers. While chasing a target of 146 runs, the Nepali squad lost all their wickets within the stipulated 20 overs, managing to accumulate 140 runs.

Foreign Minister Saud urges US business community to invest in Nepal

Foreign Minister NP Saud, who is presently on an official visit to the United States of America, has urged the US business community to invest in Nepal, citing that Nepal offers better investment opportunities. He said that Nepal has created an investment-friendly environment, including constitutional provisions that allow foreign investors to take back profits and capital to their home countries.

Gold price up by Rs 700 today

Gold price increased by Rs 700 per tola in the Nepali market today. According to the Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the price of fine gold has been fixed at Rs 115,700 per tola and standard gold is traded at Rs 115,150 per tola. The precious yellow metal was valued at Rs. 115,000 per tola, and standard gold at Rs. 114,450 per tola on Wednesday.
