KATHMANDU: The monsoon is set to continue its presence in Nepal until Wednesday, defying its usual departure date.

Typically, the monsoon season in Nepal begins on June 13 and concludes on October 2.

However, the Weather Forecasting Division has stated that this year, the monsoon is unlikely to recede by Wednesday.

Traditionally, October 2 marks the conclusion of the monsoon season, but an extended forecast suggests that the monsoon will remain active until Wednesday, potentially bringing further rainfall.

The Division attributes this prolonged monsoon to a low-pressure system situated in the neighboring Indian states of Bihar and West Bengal, which is currently exerting an influence on weather patterns in Nepal and causing widespread rainfall.

While the monsoon has begun to withdraw from the western regions of India, its departure from Nepal remains uncertain due to the persistent weather system.

The Division reports ongoing light to moderate rainfall in selected areas of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces.

Additionally, later in the day, there is a likelihood of light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder in various locations across Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini states, with a few scattered areas in the remaining provinces.
